Take a Closer Look at Tremaine Emory's "Dior Tears" Capsule

The collection recently made its debut as part of Kim Jones’ Pre-Fall 2023 presentation for Dior Men.

Tremaine Emory was the latest guest designer to work with Kim Jones on a capsule collection for Dior Men, following in the footsteps of ERL‘s Eli Russell Linnetz and Shawn Stussy.

The Denim Tears founder and Supreme creative director partnered with the fashion house on a capsule dubbed “Dior Tears,” which was presented ahead of the Dior Men Pre-Fall 2023 runway in Cairo, Egypt. Further proving streetwear’s influence in the world of luxury and fashion, the collection featured a wide range of ready-to-wear garments as well as accessories such as hats, scarves, handbags and more.

“I want to share that moment in time, that beautiful moment in time where Black writers and musicians and artists were coming from America, running from America, and finding some level of acceptance in certain European cities and being able to have their art respected and who they are respected,” Emory spoke of his inspiration in a press release. “It wasn’t perfect but it was just a moment, a beautiful moment for blacks to have the privilege and opportunity to escape from the terror, the horrors of America, a segregated Jim Crow America. Artists like Miles Davis and writers like James Baldwin found refuge in Paris.”

A journey from New York to Paris via New Orleans, the range takes influence from the style of jazz musicians, as well as Black Ivy League students from the ’50s and ’60s. A fuzzy “Dior Tears”-branded scarf is covered in colorful stripes, a detail additionally found on sweaters, long-sleeved tees and more. The branding further takes center stage on a range of casual collegiate sweatpants, fuzzy fur trims on jacket sleeves and bright-colored shirts. Tailored pieces are blended with comfy items with crochet bucket hats serving as standout accessories, while Dior’s iconic Oblique pattern is updated with floral peace signs throughout. The theme continues in the footwear lineup, which is comprised of mules and sneakers paired with branded socks.
