5 Emerging Designers To Know From Copenhagen Fashion Week FW22

These up-and-coming Scandi brands were the stars of the show.

With a robust roster of homegrown Danish brands and designers from neighboring Scandinavian countries, Copenhagen Fashion Week has become the ultimate event for discovering new talent in the Nordic region. At the Fall/Winter 2022 edition of the biannual event, a crop of emerging designers — from Stockholm-based Jade Cropper to Marie Mark’s KERNE.MILK — stole the spotlight with their seriously cool collections. Read on for five up-and-comers to know from CPHFW FW22.

While you are at it, we rounded up the top runway shows and trends from CPHFW this season.

Founded by sibling duo Nanna and Simon Wick in 2018, (di)vision is the sustainably minded Copenhagen label creating garments out of vintage clothing and deadstock fabrics. Intrigued by UFOs and paranormal experiences, the brand presented a FW22 show with sci-fi undertones — think its signature “split” bomber jacket paired with adidas snow boots, or a varsity jacket emblazoned with space-themed patches.

Frederik Taus

Part of talent incubator Designers’ Nest program this season, Copenhagen-based designer Frederik Taus wowed the fashion crowd with their fantastically wicked collection, “MANIFESTO Greatest Hits.”  Reimagining traditionally formal attire — or so-called feminine or masculine pieces of clothing — with elements like exaggerated collars, statement-making shoulder pads and punkish tartans, the range seeks to challenge gender norms in fashion.

The Garment

Copenhagen stylist Sophia Roe‘s The Garment, a brand that she launched in 2020 alongside designer Charlotte Eskildsen, unveiled its first show this season with a quietly cool collection of timeless, versatile pieces. Standouts from the minimalist-chic array of looks include a mandarin-collar jacket paired with a knit mini skirt, as well as a slightly nipped double breasted coat.

Jade Cropper

Swedish designer Jade Cropper’s eponymous brand made its buzzy debut at CPHFW with a refreshing collection that screams new-gen cool. Cropper’s sophomore collection, filled with going out looks like a thigh-high slit dress and a sheer, layered ensemble with peekaboo details, is made exclusively from waste and recycled materials in her Stockholm studio.

Indie Copenhagen label KERNE.MILK was founded in 2019 by Marie Mark. Like many of its peers, the brand places sustainability at the heart of its design practices, upcycling existing materials into new, unique clothing. Its latest collection is made up of sultry-meets-playful separates, from an off-the-shoulder dress adorned with buttons in various shapes and sizes, to a backless halter top and color-matching bottoms.
