Who Is Ibrahim Kamara, the New Art and Image Director of Off-White™?
A long-time collaborator and friend of Virgil Abloh’s, Kamara will oversee the artistic direction of the brand.
Ibrahim Kamara is the newest member to join Virgil Abloh‘s Off-White™ as the brand’s art and image director.
The label made the announcement via social media on Saturday: “Ibrahim Kamara joins Off-White c/o Virgil Abloh™ as Art & Image Director. He will be joining a collective of creatives and overseeing the artistic direction of the brand.” The message further read: “Ibrahim’s relationship with Virgil and Off-White™ born and nurtured through DM messages on Instagram, blossomed both personally and professionally in the last three years creating a strong bond based on mutual respect and shared values. In the new role, he will further develop his influence and insight on the brand’s collections, image and content.”
Off-White™’s CEO Andrea Grilli commented on the new appointment: “In the wake of Virgil’s tragic passing we have been working tirelessly to keep his legacy alive and the brand relevant as a point of reference and platform in constant evolution. Inspired by Virgil’s vision and approach to his art we have nourished a collective of creative minds that represent the best in their category and have a strong and personal connection with Virgil.” He continued: “Having Ibrahim on board, who has been part of the Off-White™ family for years styling our shows, to oversee art and creative of the brand in this next chapter is a great honor.”
Kamara is a well-known name in the fashion space, having worked as a stylist and art director for brands like Burberry, Dior and Stella McCartney. In addition to his new job at Off-White™, the creative is also the editor-in-chief of Dazed. As a longtime collaborator and friend of Abloh’s, Kamara has also worked on projects including the late designer’s posthumous Louis Vuitton shows for Spring/Summer 2022 and Fall/Winter 2022.
Kamara shared his excitement for joining Off-White™ in a press release. “Virgil will forever be with us. With me. He changed the world and left an indelible mark on anyone who encountered him and beyond. Generous with his time, mind and creativity — he saw everyone and created with all humans in mind. I am honored to further link my ties to Off-White™ as their Art & Image Director and be a part of the team that will tell the rest of the story Virgil started writing for us all.”
