Are Doctors Going to Prescribe Vibrators Again?
Inside the study that will change your sex life.
In unexpected news, The Journal of Urology is providing an unorthodox approach for women everywhere. Lead researcher Alexandra Dubinskaya of Cedar-Sinai Medical Center found that “the time may have come for [vibrators] to be considered medical therapy devices.”
This isn’t the first time medical benefits and vibrators have been associated, however. In the 1900s, doctors prescribed the use of vibrators for hysteria, which we now know as sexual frustration. The prescribed toy looked like a typical household appliance and acted as a marital aid to cure the lack of sex within marriage. Flash forward to today after years of taboo, vibrators have reached their full-circle moment.
In the current study, over 558 research papers that studied the benefits of vibrators for medical use were reviewed. Among that research, the benefits listed below were found. As a result, the research team concluded that vibrators are a valid therapeutic device that can improve the physical and sexual health of their owners, and both female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery specialists should take heed.
