Naomi Campbell Earns Honorary PhD for Contributions to Fashion

That’s Dr. Naomi Campbell, to you.

Naomi Campbell was awarded an honorary PhD from University for the Creative Arts for her countless contributions to the fashion industry.

The ceremony was held on July 7 at London‘s Royal Festival Hall and saw the supermodel giving a tearful speech about how far she’s come. In a video shared on Twitter by Perfect Mag, Campbell said, “It’s an honor to be here today. I’m just thinking, yesterday I was on the runway doing Balenciaga,” while wiping tears from her face.

The model continued her speech with a shoutout to South London where she’s from, and gave a special thanks to her mother who has supported her throughout her career. Following the ceremony, Campbell reshared a video posted by rapper Sean “Diddy” Combs congratulating her on her new qualification while celebrating with a cake and candles.

Campbell’s achievement comes shortly after she walked the runway at Balenciaga’s Couture show in Paris, alongside the likes of Kim Kardashian, Christine Quinn and Dua Lipa. The model shared a heartfelt Instagram post following the show with a caption that read: “Thank you for letting walk in your seamless and flawless world, I was so nervous I would not fit through the door, but your amazing team and my seamstresses assured me all had been tested, ACCURATELY. It was an honor to walk for house of Balenciaga for first time in my career Happy to walk alongside my fellow Gemini Nicole Kidman.”
