LOEWE FW23 Menswear Collection Is Simply Surreal

Featuring hammered copper coats and angel wings.

JW Anderson flexes his creative muscles at Paris Fashion Week, unveiling a whimsical Fall/Winter 2023 Menswear collection.

Marrying simplicity with absurdity, LOEWE‘s latest line pushes the boundaries of fashion, delivering theatrical silhouettes and experimental fabrics. Angel wings peeking out of demure blouses, nodding to Old Masters’ paintings, whereas artisan-beaten copper and pewter coats give the assortment of garments a decidedly hard edge, stretching the imagination.

The collection thrives on juxtaposition, simultaneously presenting a soft face when needed, becoming avant-garde when necessary. Garments are artfully worn as an arms leisurely lay outside of their sleeves in dreamy cowl neck dresses, dipping at the navel. LOEWE defies gravity with a leather tank top featuring a multi-layered, seemingly levitating hem. The underwear as daywear trend is taken to the next level as models don nothing but baby soft silk boxers, while long johns sit underneath Easter egg-colored crewneck sweaters.

Outerwear is the season’s protagonist as Anderson expertly plays with proportions as wool coats are cartoonishly oversized. Sleeves are graciously elongated for optimal coziness, whereas double breasted quilted jackets mirror our favorite winter comforters. A fur coat reminiscent of Big Bird pays homage to its avian inspirations with the inclusion of bulbous cuffs, threatening to take flight. Accessories are anything but an afterthought as startlingly white and red eye contacts added a healthy dose of fantasy. Models carried generous tote bags and wore rounded mule boots or footwear with luscious fur collars.

Take a look at LOEWE’s FW23 Menswear collection in the gallery above.
