You Can Now Own One of Princess Diana's Dresses

While Meghan Markle may be the (ex)-royal of the moment, Princess Diana will always reign supreme. Now, admirers of the Princess of Wales will be able to hold onto a piece of her legacy as one of her iconic dresses will be up for auction later this month.
With an estimated value of $120,000 USD, Sotheby’s is selling the late beauty’s official royal portrait ensemble — a stunning, deep purple gown, complete with a strapless neckline, gathered waist and voluminous skirt. The one-of-a-kind piece was designed by couturier Victor Edelstein. Princess Diana also donned the dress for a 1997 Vanity Fair spread before her untimely and tragic death.
The garment last sold for nearly $25,000 USD the same year at a Christie’s charity auction including 79 of her dresses. While the past auction’s proceeds were donated to the Royal Marsden Hospital, where Princess Diana served as president, as well as other AIDS and cancer organizations, it is unclear if the profit from her Edelstein dress will see the same philanthropic end.
Princess Diana was famous for her social justice endeavors as her second son Prince Harry has committed himself to carrying on her legacy of humanitarianism as he shared in the Netflix documentary series, Harry & Meghan. Much like his mother, Prince Harry is causing a stir amongst The Royal Family, revealing personal fights and more as a new tell-all memoir is on the horizon.
