Los Angeles-based celebrity makeup artist Mary Phillips is a wealth of makeup hacks and tricks that are trialed on her A-lister clients such as Hailey Bieber and the KarJenners. With her “Under Contouring” tip that went viral in January on TikTok, she’s back with another that’s the key to faking your best skin yet. Ladies, gents and all those in-between meet “Micro-Concealing.”

As the name suggests, the method is all about adding concealer coverage to areas where discoloration and blemishes show. In a demo video, Phillips says, “If a client has blemishes or textured skin, I like to go in with a tiny brush. I’ve heard people refer to this technique as micro-concealing.” Micro-concealing works for pitted acne scars, using the technique to bring them out and create a faux, raised look on the skin for blending and textural purposes. The guru also advises applying light swipes of concealer to mouth area wrinkles and chin pimples — taking a foundation brush to diffuse and soften the touch-ups.

Makeup application has taught us to cover up the areas on our faces that we want to hide, but with micro-concealing,” we’re tackling our annoyances head-on with a touch that says “I love my skin, but I still want to be beat.”

If you want to try the hack out on yourself, catch more of Phillips’s take on the trend ahead.
