Devon Aoki Stars in Acne Studios' Dreamy SS23 Campaign
Echoing the sultry set of the brand’s SS23 runway show.
Acne Studios enlisted model and actor Devon Aoki to be the face of its Spring/Summer 2023 campaign.
Echoing the sultry, ethereal energy of the brand’s SS23 runway show, Aoki features in the campaign dressed in hero looks from the collection, lensed by Dutch visual artist Carlijn Jacobs.
“Carlijn is one of the great talents, I knew her work and felt that we would do something amazing together. Upon meeting her, you see the creative energy just kind of flows out of her and she is a powerful storyteller,” says Aoki in a press release.
In celebration of the brand’s 10-year anniversary, Acne Studios’ SS23 show offered a “warped take on the notion of love,” twisting traditional perceptions and archetypes of romance through fabric exploration and set design. Now, Aoki stars as the story’s protagonist, offering an entirely new take on the disruptive vision. Shot against a backdrop of soft, pink silk sheets, Aoki models a transparent tulle gown, complete with a giant, light blue bow. The model is then wrapped in organza ribbons, aiming to represent a sense of unity.
The campaign plays with proportions and clashing textures, fusing oversized seashell earrings with delicate gingham prints and metallic spike studs, rounded out by flower corsage bras and ruched fabrics.
“I love the energy behind the Acne Studios. The pieces are beautifully made, and very flattering on but feel sui generis like sculpted pieces of art floating down the runway. Feminine and strong and you feel a touch of the experimental. This collection goes beyond clothing’s physical constraints,” Aoki adds.
