Gap Is Suing Kanye West for $2 Million USD
For damages to a rental property following the termination of their contract.
Gap Inc. is reportedly suing rapper Kanye West for a total of $2 million USD, following the termination of their YEEZY Gap collaboration, which came to an end as a result of Ye’s controversial behaviour.
According to the New York Post, Gap claimed that the artist “made unapproved changes to a Los Angeles rental property the landlord is trying to collect on.” The property in question currently belongs to Art City Center and was leased to Gap, who was sued as a result of “damages” to the property caused by Ye. Now, it appears that the clothing giant is passing the claim on to the rapper, who reportedly added an exterior ramp, and tunnel in the lot, alongside building a wall and removing three bathrooms and ceiling lights.
The company seemingly filed the claim against Ye and his YEEZY line last month, stating that “by making and not repairing or restoring the foregoing alterations of the premises that [West] made without Gap’s participation or approval, [West] breached the strategic agreement and directly and proximately caused Gap to incur expenses to repair and restore the premises.”
Ye is yet to respond to the claims, but it’s likely that he’ll have no choice but to pay the fees.
