MAC's Romero Jennings Opts for "It-Girl" Glam at Kim Shui FW25

Lived-in hair, icy eyes and pierced nails dominated the runway.

Kim Shui is a staple for every downtown New York girl, but in this Fall/Winter 2025 show, the designer took a different turn, challenging societal norms in a fresh way. An ode to the exploration of sensuality, Shui incorporated laser-cut pleather, shredded fabrics and Chinese embroidery, all while echoing the symbolism of the Year of the Snake. This collection’s theme is renewal, in the way we dress and perhaps the way we view the world. She drew inspiration from Monica Bonvicini’s art, mixing in traditional Western adornments like fringe and draping.

To amp up the glam, key makeup artist Romero Jennings designed the perfect “it-girl” look for Kim Shui, featuring a dramatic, smudged liner paired with contoured cool-toned lips and soft taupe blush. “It’s the cool girl look. Think about somebody like Gabriette — she looks almost futuristic, yet retro. She’s got a skinny brow, her makeup is always cool-colored. It’s very icy and not so warm. It’s very ’90s,” Jennings told Hypebae. The look was achieved with products from MAC Cosmetics like the Eye Shadow in “White Frost” and “Cozy Grey,” Eye Kohl in “Feline,” Lip Pencils in “Stone” and “Cool Spice” and “M·A·Cximal Sleek” Satin Lipstick in “Fleshpot.”

Joesph DiMaggio worked with Duomo products to sculpt the hair, opting for several different hairstyles that mirrored the “it-girl” after a really fun night out. “It’s a lived-in, fun vibe. Plus, a lot of drama. It’s really sexy,” DiMaggio told us backstage. There were several different styles, each dependent on the models’ style of hair. They braided and twisted hair, changing it up on everyone. “Kim is a fun girl and she’s from New York City. She likes to have fun and rocks this type of look every season.”

For the nails, artist Coco Michelle and her team of five spent 17 hours creating 700 plus press-ons to place onto the models. Relating materials to the show, there were six looks: crocodile-embossed, chrome texture, a nude pierced, hyperrealistic, snakeskin and finally, a Kim Shui-embellished logo. Using OPI products, each nail was neutral and more nude to allow the art to pop through.
