Balmain's FW18 Campaign Features Three Digital Supermodels
Olivier Rousteing presents his latest “Balmain Army.”
Balmain is the latest luxury fashion house to dabble in the fusion of fashion and tech. For its latest campaign Olivier Rousteing, the brand’s creative director well known for showcasing diversity, debuted the Fall/Winter 2018 campaign modeled by digital characters. The selected individuals include Shudu, an infamous model, Margot and Zhi.
Shudu came on the scene last year and became the world’s first-ever digital supermodel. Her debut was met with much commentary about a lack of actual human diversity in the modeling industry. She was created by Cameron James-Wilson, the same creator of the other CGI models in the Balmain campaign according to Buro247. The next example is the rise of virtual influencer Lil Miquela who has previously posed for Outdoor Voices, 032c magazine and Pat McGrath.
