7 Breakout Models From Fashion Month Spring/Summer 2020
These are the faces to watch.
The Spring/Summer 2020 Fashion Month has finally come to an end after four hectic weeks across New York, London, Milan and Paris. We’ve seen all the best shows, all the drool-worthy street style as well as the most eye-catching hair and makeup looks, and we’re already looking forward to the collections hitting stores next year.
Now that the month has come to a close, we’ve taken a look at some of the breakout models and must-know faces that walked the runway this season. Ranging from Off-White™‘s older models Audrey Marnay and Axelle Doue to Gucci‘s protesting model Ayesha Tan-Jones, we’ve compiled seven names you need to keep on your radar, as they’ll only continue to grow.
Peep our list below, and for all things fashion month, revisit it here.
Ugbad Abdi
Ugbad Abdi became one of the biggest breakout stars of the Fall/Winter 2019 season, and has only continued to grow since. The Somali model was discovered on Instagram, and walked the runway for Simone Rocha, Burberry and more in London this season, as well as shows across Milan and Paris. She’s become a big force of change in fashion, wearing a hijab alongside models like Halima Aden and Kadija Diawara, and is only going to grow bigger and bigger as the seasons go on.
Sophia Roberts
Sophia Roberts is only 19 years old, and walked her first runway at Dior’s SS20 show. She was scouted by IMG on the streets of Brighton at 14, and landed a Burberry campaign shot by Alasdair McLellan at 16. She’s quickly growing to become one of the biggest names to watch, as she’s taking a year off university to focus on modelling full time. There’s no doubt that Dior won’t be Sophia’s last runway show.
Hiandra Martinez
There’s no doubt you’ve seen Hiandra Martinez multiple times this month. At NYFW, she walked for labels like Marc Jacobs, Tom Ford and more, and headed to London for Burberry and Victoria Beckham. She’s already walking for all the biggest labels, and also conquered the runway at Dior, Saint Laurent, Valentino, Versace and more of the biggest labels in the industry.
Indira Scott
There’s no doubt you’ve missed Indira Scott this season on the runway. She’s walked for shows like Dior, Balmain, Khaite and more, and her waist-length box braids has become her signature look. She’s frequently featured in some of the biggest fashion magazines out there, and is a name to watch as she continues to grow on the scene.
Ayesha Tan-Jones
Ayesha Tan-Jones became one of the most talked about models this fashion month, as she decided to stage a silent protest at Gucci’s SS20 show at Milan Fashion Week. The luxury label debuted a range that closely resembled straitjackets, which made the model decide to write “Mental Health is Not Fashion” on her hands, and held them up as she walked the runway. The move gained a lot of international press, and it became one of the biggest moments this fashion month.
Audrey Marnay
Audrey Marnay is part of Virgil Abloh‘s diverse cast of models that walked the runway for the SS20 show. She’s signed with IMG in London, Paris and Milan, and has been modelling since the age of 15. She’s also an actress, and has starred in films like Monuments Men and more. Marnay became one of the most notable faces this fashion month, as we’re slowly seeing a shift in the fashion industry where models of different ages are included.
Axelle Doue
Virgil Abloh’s Off-White™ show saw a diverse cast, including older models like Axelle Doue. Despite having modelled for a handful of seasons, the model became one of the stand-out girls from the show, and gave the label a lot of attention for its new casting and inclusivity. This season she also walked for GmbH, and is guaranteed to become one of the bigger names as fashion slowly but surely begins to include a diverse age range.
