Balenciaga's Hello Kitty Bag Is Finally Available for Purchase
The purr-fect accessory.
Last year Balenciaga unveiled a selection of Hello Kitty-inspired accessories at the brand’s Spring/Summer 2020 show, and now the feline purses are finally available for purchase.
The bag first gained a lot of attention following its reveal on the Parisian label’s SS20 runway, where it debuted in pink, white and black colorways. The piece reinterprets the iconic character designed by Yuko Shimizu in 1974, and is giving Hello Kitty a high-fashion makeover. Balenciaga juxtaposes luxury with a commercially known character, elevating the piece with “whiskers” made from the shoelaces from the label’s iconic Triple-S shoe.
In addition to the large tote bag, the Hello Kitty collection will include a phone holder, XXS Tote, XS Camera Bag, as well as Top Handle bags in XXS, small and medium sizes – all arriving in white, pink or black sporting a red leather bow. The pieces will be available in China as well as through pre-order online at Balenciaga.com on January 9, and will be available worldwide from January 27, onwards. The piece will also be available at select retailers, including Dover Street Market.
