Jean Paul Gaultier to Relaunch Haute Couture With Chitose Abe of sacai
She’ll be the label’s first guest designer.
Jean Paul Gaultier, the legendary French designer who presented his final eponymously designed Haute Couture collection back in January, has announced a new strategy for the brand’s couture division.
As promised, Haute Couture will continue, guided by a new concept: each season, a different guest designer will interpret house codes, through a collaborative collection. Chitose Abe of sacai will helm the first guest-designed collection for Gaultier, who halted ready-to-wear in 2014 in order to focus on couture and beauty.
Gaultier’s strategy is a familiar one shared by brands such as Emilio Pucci (who invited Christelle Kocher to design for Fall/Winter 2020) and Moncler, now known for its seasonal roster of collaborations.
Abe’s Jean Paul Gaultier Couture collection will debut in July. Stay tuned as news on future guest designers emerge.
