Yaeji Announces New Mixtape Titled 'WHAT WE DREW' & Releases Music Video for Lead Single “WAKING UP DOWN”
The Korean-American musician will also be going on tour this summer.
New York-based Korean electronic DJ Yaeji, AKA Kathy Yaeji Lee, has unveiled that she will be dropping a full-length mixtape dubbed WHAT WE DREW with XL Recordings. To introduce her new project, Yaeji has shared a new animated music video for the lead single, “WAKING UP DOWN.” On top of that, Yaeji has also announced she will be going on tour across North America and Europe this summer featuring dancers, original choreography and new stage production.
Yaeji’s upcoming WHAT WE DREW has been two years in the making. Artists featured in the project represent her community in New York City including rapper Nappy Nina, London performance artist Victoria Sin, London producer Shy One and Tokyo DJ and producer YonYon.
The music video for “WAKING UP DOWN” was inspired by classic anime opening sequences and based entirely on Yaeji’s own original character designs and illustrations. With the help of her close friend Annie Zhao and production by Studio Yotta, the song features a blend of DIY pop and underground club music. The track’s lyrics are about the simple euphoria of young adulthood which Yaeji wrote in English and Korean.
You can now pre-order Yaeji’s WHAT WE DREW on the streaming platform of your choice, and is set to drop on April 2.
