Zendaya Reveals Upcoming Film 'Malcolm & Marie,' Shot in Quarantine
Co-starring John David Washington.
Zendaya has announced her return to the screen with a leading role in Malcolm & Marie, an upcoming film written and directed by Euphoria creator Sam Levinson. The movie, which was filmed in quarantine between June 17 and July 2, also stars John David Washington, who is set to appear in Christopher Nolan’s Tenet.
According to a report by Deadline, the film was produced in secret with approval from unions such as the Screen Actors Guild (SAG-AFTRA) and the Writers Guild of America (WGA). All cast and crew followed strict safety protocols and quarantined for two weeks before starting work on the movie. The production’s extensive list of health measures included daily temperature checks, individually wrapped meals and regular sanitization of equipment including microphones, props and camera gear.
Though details surrounding the premise of the film remain unclear, Deadline reporter Anthony D’Alessandro writes that “the movie has some echoes of Netflix’s Marriage Story, while resonating a number of social themes that the world is experiencing right now.” A release date has yet to be announced.
