Grindr Expands Safety Features With UrSafe Partnership
Offering free premium access to the personal safety app.
Grindr, the popular location-based dating app for gay, bi, transgender and queer individuals, has partnered with UrSafe, a voice-activated personal safety app that can share users’ location with friends and family and dial 911 in the event of an emergency. The two companies are now offering a free, 14-day pass to UrSafe’s premium features in a move to help facilitate safe online dating.
UrSafe’s comprehensive features allow users to specify safe-words that trigger a variety of responses – from dialing 911 to alerting a trusted contact – depending on the severity of the situation. With real-time location tracking, friends and family can ensure users arrive home safely. According to a report by the Urban Institute, the LGBTQ+ community faces higher rates of violence than heterosexual individuals. Though UrSafe can’t eradicate the prejudice that precipitates targeted violence, the app can help users protect themselves in the event of a threatening situation while online dating and beyond.
