Who Is the Designer Behind Bella Hadid's Sheer '90s Look at the 2020 MTV VMAs?
The Central Saint Martins graduate’s designs are all about nostalgia.
The first-ever socially distanced VMAs took place over the past weekend, with striking red carpet looks from the likes of Lady Gaga, Keke Palmer and more. Among some of the best-dressed included Bella Hadid, who opted for a sheer, ’90s-style bodysuit paired with trousers. Ever since the outfit was first revealed on the streets of New York on Saturday, the fashion world has been paying attention to Nensi Dojaka, the creative behind the design.
Hailing from Albania and currently based in London, Dojaka is a graduate from Central Saint Martins who showcased her first collection via Fashion East back in February. Boasting retro feels, the debut range accurately represented Dojaka’s key inspiration: ’90s fashion magazines. “The minimalist, industrial nature of the ‘90s felt raw and honest,” the designer recently shared in an interview with Vogue. Staying true to her aesthetic, Dojaka, who is originally known for her draping techniques, created her first-ever tailored pieces that were later Hadid-approved.
The sheer bodysuit seen on the red carpet sees cut-out details at the front, with two darker panels placed to barely cover the breasts. Arriving with an off-shoulder cut, the top is complete with a strap of fabric running around the bust. Meanwhile, the pants come in a straight-leg silhouette to finish off the nostalgic look. Expressing appreciation for Dojak, Bella Hadid took to Instagram to share more unreleased images of her latest outfit: “Wearing incredibly talented young designer, Nensi Dojaka. Styled with my brother, Carlos Nazario.”
The two items have quickly sold out after the big red carpet moment. You can head over to SSENSE to browse more of Dojaka’s designs.
