SZA Finally Drops New Track "Hit Different" Following #FreeSZA Trend on Twitter
The artist’s label Top Dawg Entertainment was allegedly preventing her from releasing new tracks.
Ever since the artist’s first studio album CTRL in 2017, SZA‘s fans have been anxiously waiting for new releases. Last summer, she teased an upcoming “little project” shortly after teaming with DJ Khaled for “Just Us.” More than a year later, the musician shared a series of now-deleted tweets, explaining that her label Top Dawg Entertainment and CEO Punch were keeping her from dropping new music. Following the #FreeSZA hashtag trending on social media, the singer surprised fans with a teaser mentioning something new would be released tonight.
“Midnight EST,” the caption reads, along with an image of SZA naked and covered in blood. Followers responded to the exciting news with anticipation: “Finally sis,” “Is this a drill?” “Why you gotta keep me up past my bedtime,” the comment section continues. The long-awaited track, titled “Hit Different,” starts off with a chorus by collaborator Ty Dolla $ign. “I was in your front and makin’ it even if you wasn’t mine,” SZA then sings. In the accompanying music video, the artist is seen in various scenes, including one where she is bloodied up with horses in a barn.
