Enjoy Cherry Blossom Season From Home With This Sakura-Inspired Beer
Brewed using pickled flower petals.
As the spring season approaches, we’re seeing more cherry blossom-themed releases including Starbucks drinks and whisky. Now, Japan‘s Sankt Gallen Brewery has unveiled its latest sakura-inspired beer.
The seasonal beverage is brewed using actual cherry blossom petals and leaves from trees in Ina, Nagano, which is known for its sakura-viewing spots. Once the flowers are harvested, they are compressed and preserved at a specific temperature for a pickling process before being used to make the beer. The rest of the ingredients include malted wheat, hops and Sankt Gallen’s specialty rice. The drink comes in a glass bottle wrapped with a pink-and-red label covered in cherry blossom graphics.
The Sankt Gallen Sakura beer, priced at ¥460 JPY (approximately $4 USD) for an 11-ounce bottle, will be available from February 19 to mid-April at liquor stores and the brewery’s online shop.
