SM Entertainment x MGM Searching for Newest Member of NCT Through TV Show
The winner will join the K-pop group, which currently consists of 23 members.
While YG Entertainment is looking to create the all-boy edition of BLACKPINK, SM Entertainment has now joined forces with MGM Television to produce a competition series. The winner of the reality TV show will be joining the K-pop group NCT, Deadline reports.
Untitled as of now, the series will be open to men aged between 13 and 25 in the United States as they compete for a spot in the NCT Universe, which includes sub-teams NCT 127, NCT Dream and WayV. The show will see selected contestants travel to South Korea to train at SM’s headquarters in Seoul, where they will engage in a number of tests and challenges to become the last one standing.
“This series is exactly the type of innovative programming that MGM is committed to creating on a global scale. K-pop is more than a genre of music; it’s a cultural phenomenon and we’re so excited to partner with the incredible Soo-Man Lee and the team at SM to bring K-pop to the U.S.,” MGM’s Chairman Mark Burnett shared. Soo-Man Lee, the founder of SM, added: “We aim to help the contestants show their unlimited potential in becoming true artists. I hope the audience enjoys watching the journey of new stars being born in Hollywood, that will be promoted as NCT-Hollywood in the global market in the future.”
