Apple Reportedly Considered Launching Its Own Healthcare Service
Offering primary care and subscription-based health programs.
Following the news about the Apple Watch undergoing major revisions ahead of its release this fall, the tech giant has reportedly considered developing its own subscription-based healthcare service. However, this concept was put on hold due to the company prioritizing its Apple Watch and Apple Health services.
According to the Wall Street Journal, the project commenced in 2016, which would have linked data “generated by Apple devices with virtual and in-person care provided by Apple doctors.” The tech giant also hired Stanford University’s Dr. Sumbul Desai to oversee the project after reportedly acquiring a health clinic near Apple Park.
As a result, an app called HealthHabit was created to connect employees with clinicians via chat, further encouraging them to set health goals. However, the app didn’t perform as well and was questioned over its data usage. An Apple spokesperson told the WSJ, “This matter was investigated thoroughly and the allegations could not be substantiated… Many of the assertions in this report are based on incomplete, outdated and inaccurate information.”
