Hair Tinsel Is the Latest TikTok Beauty Trend

Although the future is well underway, many of us are still partying like it’s 2000 — the newest Y2K trend to make a comeback is hair tinsel.
If you weren’t alone in using the shimmering tassels at the end of your Barbie bicycle handles as a hair accessory, you’re in luck. Celebrities from Katy Perry to country singer Kacey Musgraves are sporting sparkly strands, also known as fairy hair. Hair tinsel videos have collected over 85 million views on TikTok, so it’s safe to say the trend will be a springtime beauty staple.
In an interview with Allure, New Orleans hair stylist Ashley Armour shares two separate techniques on how to rock the aesthetic. “The first is where I tie a single strand of tinsel to a single hair strand and another one is with a micro bead extension, which is 20 strands of tinsel in one bead. Both are so easy to maintain. I usually warn people, especially with the single strand, that it’s going to fall out with your natural hair strand — so some of them will fall out the first week and some will last up to six months or more.”
A word of caution – while trying out the Euphoria-inspired trend, be sure to move the tinsel out of the way when using heat tools to style your hair.
