Rihanna Is Helping Put a Stop to Climate Change

The singer is pledging $15 million USD to climate justice.

There is nothing that Rihanna can’t do — the Fenty Beauty mogul and global superstar is joining the fight against climate change by donating $15 million USD to groups working towards climate justice in the United States and the Caribbean, making her pledging through her Clara Lionel Foundation in partnership with former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey’s #StartSmall initiative.

According to a press release per Complex, the money will go towards organizations “focused on and led by women, youth, Black, Indigenous, LGBTQIA+, and people of color to accelerate climate justice for those at greatest risk.” It is crucial to note that climate disasters often affect marginalized communities the most.

Climate change is not a new passion of Rihanna’s as her foundation is presently working on nine climate justice initiatives. “Our Climate Resilience Initiative is focused on addressing multiple dimensions of emergency preparedness while scaling solutions to the problems of climate change,” the Clara Lionel Foundation’s website reads. “These projects, which range from school and health clinic infrastructure hardening projects to gender-integrated emergency response planning and local capacity building in the Caribbean, serve as models of preparedness that can be replicated and scaled to enable other high-risk regions around the world to be better prepared to withstand extreme weather events. Ultimately, our goal is that the Caribbean becomes the world’s first climate-resilient zone.”
