Serena Williams Appointed as Board Advisor for NFT Platform, Sorare
Presenting another opportunity for undervalued athletes to reach new audiences.
Sorare, a gaming platform that combines NFT collectibles with fantasy sports, has appointed Serena Williams as an advisor to its board of directors. Besides being a well-known athlete, Williams is also a brand builder, investor and entrepreneur at the forefront of sports and technology.
Williams’ role encompasses a range of duties, including developing the brand’s relationship with athletes around the world, promoting inclusivity in the metaverse and advising on expansion to new sports categories. Nicolas Julia, the CEO of Sorare, stated: “Serena Williams is among the most important figures in sports and culture, who has redefined the modern athlete and entrepreneur, including her unprecedented early stage investing successes.” She continued: “Together, we’ll forge new ways for fans to engage with their favorite athletes.”
The company plans to venture into women’s sports and other categories, while expanding on the premise of players discovering new teams and athletes they had not engaged with before. Williams shares her excitement in working with the team, saying: “NFTs have the potential to be a powerful tool for bringing equity and investment to women’s sports.
