Jacquemus Stages Off-Calendar "Le Splash" Show on Hawai'ian Beach
The SS22 collection is available now.
Just after Paris Fashion Week came to a close, Simon Porte Jacquemus headed to O’ahu, Hawai’i to present his off-calendar Spring/Summer 2022 show.
Marking the designer’s first runway staged outside of France, the collection took place on a beach, fully embracing the nature and landscape of the island. As shared in a press release, the label worked with local talent and businesses to leave as little footprint on the environment as possible. Inviting only a select number of celebrity friends and guests including BLACKPINK’s Jennie, Jhené Aiko and more, Jacquemus hosted an intimate runway to reveal his latest pieces.
As suggested by its name, “Le Splash” takes inspiration from water, featuring vivid blue tones reminiscent of David Hockney’s famous artworks, as well as aquatic sport references. Models walked down a blue runway on the beach, with a series of tonal ivory looks opening the collection. The water sport references were seen in the form of contoured stitchings and zip pull details taken from wetsuits, while life jackets were reimagined as puffer vests. Netting and cut-outs were some of the standout details, with the former transformed into a crossbody harness and a tank top.
Elsewhere, Jacquemus presented a range of summer-ready suits with glass adornments reminiscent of water droplets by Canadian artist Tanya Lyons. Adding a touch of contrast to his usual tonal outfits, the designer introduced a check pattern on breezy shirts, shorts, skirts and more. The lineup was complete with new bag offerings from the French brand, including an updated Sac Rond, Le Bambinou and La Vague. The new Le Bomba, a silhouette that follows the natural curve of the body, also made its debut.
