"Gilded Glamour" Beauty Trends to Track
From iridescent face and body gems to “skin-first” foundation.
The Playoffs in the fashion and beauty world, known as the Met Gala, never disappoints. The first Monday in May is when the most elite celebrities of our time grace the infamous steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art and bring their A-game style. While fashion may be first and foremost for some, it’s the hair, makeup, and nails that bring the complete look home.
The theme for this year’s event was “Gilded Glamor,” a sequel to September 2021’s “A Lexicon of Fashion,” which paid homage to fashion history of the United States in the 19th and 20th centuries. For the theme this year, we saw gold glamour, iridescent face and body gems, electric eyeshadows, and the continuation of “skin-first” foundation choices. Everyone hit the carpet with their game faces, literally.
Historical references were also given by stars such as co-chair Blake Lively, paying homage to the Statue of Liberty, and Cynthia Erivo, whose overall look was inspired by enslaved Black women of the Gilded Age.
Take a closer look at all of the best makeup looks from the 2022 Met Gala.
