Preview the women’s exclusive releasing in July.

UPDATE (June 22, 2022): Official images of Nina Chanel Abney‘s Air Jordan 2 collaboration have surfaced.

The two-part drop features an Air Jordan 2 and Air Jordan 2 Low with the former donning a red/white colorway and the latter in a crisp green and white.

Both sneakers feature collectible hang tags with Abney’s artwork within miniature ornate frames, with the artwork continuing onto the pairs’ custom packaging.

Scroll through the gallery above to get a detailed look at the collaboration and look out for the Nina Chanel Abney x Air Jordan 2 to release July 8. Retail price for the AJ2 and AJ2 Low comes in at $225 USD $200 USD respectively.

ORIGINAL STORY (April 18, 2022): Visual artist Nina Chanel Abney lends her striking aesthetic to a Jordan 2 capsule collection that will include two footwear models alongside co-branded apparel.

Nina’s signature portraiture is created in part by reducing her subjects to the most integral elements. This approach is echoed in her AJ2 design which reworks the original, re-crafting the reptilian overlay, removing perforations and adding a toe cap.

Leaked images provide an early look at the footwear portion of the collection which consists of AJ2 high and low silhouettes in “Chicago” and white/green colorways, complete with special edition hangtags and collectible packaging. Nina also posted a rework of the Jumpman logo that will presumably land on the coordinating apparel.

In a press release, Jordan Brand spoke on the partnership in greater detail stating,

“The realm of arts and sports have been focal points within Chanel Abney’s practice over the past two decades. Throughout her career, Chanel Abney has created pieces that subvert traditional iconography and form visual storylines through diptychs and triptychs in mural-form, often drawing influence from racial injustice, police violence, gender disparities, and homophobia. She is known to capture the frenetic pace of contemporary culture by creating a new type of historical painting.

Over history, Black athletes have become cultural icons that unify spaces across race, gender, sexual orientation, and nationalities. Through this collaboration, Chanel Abney hopes to highlight the legacy of Michael Jordan, a personal hero of hers as a Chicago-native, and the lengths that have been made in bridging communities by Black icons at-large.”

The Nina Chanel Abney x Air Jordan 2 is slated to release this fall, stay tuned for updates and release info.
