Ghost Elements Designed a Custom Fight Look for Alycia Baumgardner
Paying homage to her Korean heritage for AAPI Month.
Ghost Elements and Alycia Baumgardner turned the ring into a runway, with the Korean-American-owned label designing a bespoke look for the boxing champion. Working closely alongside the brand’s founder Jean Chung, Baumgardner’s custom look pays homage to her lineage, grandmother and her Korean roots.
The design is bold and refreshing in the world of boxing. Taking the classic silhouettes of traditional boxing outfits, Ghost Elements’ creation offers a new take on what a fighter looks like. A clean, white base offers the perfect backdrop for embroidered Korean plum blossoms. The red flowers are lined in gold, referencing traditional Korean architecture and ornate palace decorations.
The outfit tells a story, with Baumgardner’s name stamped in the style of a dojang, the traditional Korean seal once hand-carved from wood or stone as a personal mark of authenticity. Stitched onto a gladiator-style skirt, the outfit mixes cultures and traditions effortlessly, reimagining femininity and strength through fashion.
The centerpiece of the look is the robe, inspired by a Hanbok — specifically the Queen’s robe of the Joseon Dynasty.
Baumgardner’s look coincides with AAPI month, offering a unique form of representation in the ring. Integrating elements of different eras and aspects of Korean culture, her outfit is a reflection of her roots and the long line of fighters that led to her success.
