Balenciaga Is Really Trying to Make High-Heeled Crocs Happen
Ugly-luxury, anyone?
Balenciaga creative director Demna Gvasalia wowed the fashion crowd back in October 2017 when he debuted his 10cm-soled platform Crocs at the brand’s Spring/Summer 2018 runway show. Joining Christopher Kane, a self-proclaimed Croc lover who has released a few iterations of the controversial footwear, the Georgian designer is on a mission to make Crocs an It-shoe. From a sunny yellow colorway to a punk, studded version, the towering rubber sandals have been going viral on social media. And now, it seems as though Gvasalia is ready to take the “ugly” fashion shoe to the next level.
Images of a pair of bubblegum pink, high-heeled Crocs have recently been shared on Balenciaga’s Instagram account. As one would expect, there’s a mix of here-for-it and disapproving feedback in the comments. Coincidentally, Crocs has just unveiled its own heels dubbed the Cyprus V Crocs earlier this month. Despite being harshly mocked on Twitter, said new silhouette has quickly sold out, according to Dazed.

On another note, the dad-approved sport sunglasses have suddenly become a go-to accessory among style stars like Bella Hadid and Kim Kardashian, replacing micro, Matrix-inspired frames as the hottest eyewear this summer. What are your thoughts on the whole ugly-luxury trend?
