New York Fashion Week‘s Spring/Summer 2020 runway shows are wrapping up soon. This week was mostly about the expansive womenswear collections. If you’ve been paying attention to the luxury fashion market, you’re well aware that emerging brands are having a major moment right now. What makes these labels stand out from the rest is the drive of the creative directors, designers and their close-knit teams.

From Kim Shui and Sandy Liang, to Khaite and LaQuan Smith, we’re highlighting the top emerging designers who presented their SS20 collections at NYFW. Continue reading to get familiar with some of the designers of-the-moment.

Sandy Liang held her first-ever runway show for the SS20 season earlier this week. The colorful range was filled with cozy separates, graphic floral pieces and menswear. A few of our favorite selections were a purple and tan fleece jacket worn with a long cotton dress. Another look that caught our attention was a red houndstooth baby doll top worn with black and tan leggings. If you’re looking for a brand that is constantly creating pieces that evoke inner joy, Sandy Liang might just become your go-to.

For her SS20 collection, Kim Shui looked to the ’90s and ’00s for inspiration. The spunky collection was filled with butterfly prints, curly wig updos and kitten heels. The aughts were also seen in the use of mini diamonds found on tops, skirts and dresses. Her line included garter-inspired tights, Asian-influenced dresses and large “K” initial earrings in silver. The range was fun and was worn by a diverse cast of models who gave the collection their own spin as they walked down the runway at Spring Studios.

Khaite

Fashion lovers are well aware that Khaite is a bit of a hidden gem. The fashion house’s SS20 presentation featured an assortment of office-ready pieces, including blazers, denim staples and ruched tops. The sheer creativity of designer Catherine Holstein shined brightly this season. It goes without saying that Khaite is constantly on it when it comes to serving up separates ideal for day-to-night. This collection had the air of ultimate luxury thanks to the leather outerwear, ultra-flared trousers and quirky headwear.

LaQuan Smith

LaQuan Smith’s SS20 show had a plethora of memorable looks. A few ensembles we were into included translucent, cowboy-inspired pairings and luxe snakeskin separates styled with sexy pumps. The Western inclinations were also made clear by the cowboy hats sent down the runway. If you’re more so into minimalistic pieces, Smith also designed daywear that didn’t come across as gaudy or doing too much.
