UPDATE: BTS' Public Art Project, 'CONNECT, BTS,' Lands in New York City
Find out where you can catch the project’s final exhibitions.
UPDATE (February 5, 2020): The BTS-fronted public art project, CONNECT, BTS, is coming to a close with a final exhibition in New York City. British artist Antony Gormley, the last of the initiative’s featured artists, has brought a large-scale installation titled New York Clearing to the city’s Brooklyn Bridge Park Pier 3.
The work consists of a single line made of more than 11 miles of aluminum tubing that twists and coils with no discernible beginning or end. Rising to a towering height of 50 feet, the piece creates an environment in and of itself set against the iconic Manhattan cityscape.
For fans outside of New York, CONNECT, BTS is still on view in Buenos Aires and Seoul. Tomás Saraceno‘s levitating sculpture Fly with Aerocene Pacha will be exhibited at Salinas Grandes until March 22 while Green, Yellow and Pink, a series of light works by Ann Veronica Janssens, can be seen at Dongdaemun Design Plaza until March 20.
Antony Gormley’s New York Clearing will be on view at Brooklyn Bridge Park Pier 3 until March 27. Check out photos of the work in the gallery above.
ORIGINAL STORY (January 14, 2020): K-pop sensation BTS is embarking on an unorthodox new project, a series of public art programming dubbed CONNECT, BTS. The global initiative connects 22 artists in a series of five free exhibitions — located in London, Berlin, Buenos Aires, Seoul and New York — developed in partnership with select curators.
The program’s first installation, a solo show of Jacob Kudsk Steensen‘s work, opened at London’s Serpentine Galleries earlier today. Information on the following four exhibitions remains sparse, but a schedule posted online reveals opening dates and select artists, including Antony Gormley, Tomás Saraceno and Ann Veronica Janssens, featured in upcoming shows.
