COMME des GARÇONS x Salomon Collaborate on Chunky Platform Footwear
Sporty meets avant-garde.
On October 20, Rei Kawakubo presented COMME des GARÇONS‘ Spring/Summer 2021 collection, a dramatic range of graffiti and Mickey Mouse-printed gowns. Thanks to Kawakubo’s typically avant-garde designs, it was easy to overlook the show’s quieter footwear, created in collaboration with French sporting brand Salomon.
Up-close shots of the COMME des GARÇONS x Salomon collaboration reveal two styles, a chunky platform and a flat Mary Jane. The first, dubbed the SENSE FEEL, features a mesh upper and curved platform midsole. A criss-cross lacing system and tonal Salomon branding at the lateral add sleek accents. The second shoe, the RX 3.0, merges technical detailing with the typically feminine silhouette of a classic Mary Jane. Featuring a textile upper and buckle strap at the vamp, the shoe is constructed with a flat, treaded midsole reminiscent of a sneaker. Both arrive in classic black and white colorways.
The COMME des GARÇONS x Salomon SS21 footwear collaboration ranges from $210 to $350 USD and will release at Dover Street Market beginning in March 2021.
