'Euphoria's Jacob Elordi Unpacks Nate's Sexuality
It’s deeper than you think.
Jacob Elordi, who plays Nate Jacobs, arguably the least favorite character on Euphoria, recently sat down with Variety to discuss Nate’s sexuality.

During the homoerotic scene in Lexi‘s play, Nate stormed out, removing any question of whether the gay scene was about him. Fans waited for the season finale to unpack the discourse, but it barely did.
Despite numerous think pieces dissecting Nate’s sexuality, Elordi shares that the character’s sexuality is only the tip of the iceberg. Nate is currently transitioning from a teenage boy to a man, and the example he has from this father Cal repulses him. “This is just a kid who needs a dad, but everything his dad is being is terrifying, so he wants to be the opposite of that,” he told Variety.
Elordi went on to share that “I think the sexuality thing is born from his not having a relationship with his father, or not having the relationship he thinks he should have with his father and mother. The birth of everyone’s sexuality, in a way, I think, is based off of one’s relationship with their parents.”
Nate is a generally misunderstood character, which evolved into him being despised by not only viewers but characters of the show. However, viewers still empathize with him as they slowly see more glimpses of the twisted home he comes from.
Elordi shared that reactions to Nate make complete sense: “His whole thing is secrets, keeping everything hidden. So he’s deliberately misunderstood because he doesn’t wear his heart on his sleeve. It’s impossible not to misunderstand him because he’s never being honest.” After all, what else are we to expect when Nate shows up at Maddy’s house with a gun out of nowhere?
