Nicholas Daley Wins the 2022 BFC/GQ Designer Fashion Fund
“Daley challenges the way fashion is deciphered through presentations, live performances, and films.”
Nicholas Daley is the 2022 winner of the British Fashion Council Designer Fashion Fund and as a result, will receive a 12-month business mentoring program, legal support from Sheridans, and a cash prize of £150,000 (approximately $183,000 USD.)
“I am very honored to receive this award and I would like to thank GQ the BFC and the industry judging panel for selecting me as this year’s winner. The funding and mentoring program will support me in continuing to grow my brand for the future,” Daley shared in a press release.
“With a continued emphasis on community, craftsmanship and culture and cementing a place at the center of London society – Nicholas Daley is a menswear brand exploring the interplay of fashion, music and art in novel and exciting ways. With a forward-thinking approach, Daley challenges the way fashion is deciphered through presentations, live performances, and films. He is a breath of fresh air and we are excited to see what the brand continues to achieve in the future,” Caroline Rush CBE, Chief Executive of the British Fashion Council adds.
Alongside Daley, this year’s shortlist included Rav Matharu’s clothsurgeon, art house label LYPH and independent London-based label Olubiyi Thomas, born out of Lagos. Each label on the shortlist took part in a mentoring program through the BFC’s Designer Initiatives team, providing access to industry experts and funding. The judging committee included Stylist Leah Abbott, TV Personality and Author Tan France and Multidisciplinary Artist Yinka Ilori. Previous winners of the fund include Ahluwalia in 2021, A-COLD-WALL in 2019 and Craig Green back in 2016.
