New York City is one of those places where anywhere of the five boroughs can be very “New York,” that’s the standard. Each borough from uptown Bronx down to Brooklyn, has its own sense of style and individuality. Speaking to this was designer Heron Preston who for his Fall/Winter 2023 show, brought back the OG “Bushwick Beauty” on the runway.

Preston brought out heavy hitters for makeup to bring his “Every day, cool people” idea to life. The effortless and “lived-in” hairstyles were a cool and classic touch to the “SK8 board-chic” appeal of the collection. But, the “marinated” glam under the direction of the Global Head Artist for MAC Cosmetics, Fatima Thomas, put the cherry atop the cake. Hypebae Beauty spoke to Thomas about her inspiration for the models and she stated that it was all about creating that New York #1 Train, “Second skin,” almost like a silk stocking.

Behind the scenes, we observed Thomas prepping the model’s skin with MAC’s new “Hyper Real Serumizer“, followed by foundation and concealer wherever needed. To finish, balmy-textured products were lightly tapped onto the cheeks to seal the deal — giving that “light job” faux sweat. For Heron’s Preston’s inaugural New York show, fashion and beauty enthusiasts were not disappointed by the display.
