Spice Up Your Spring Tableware With Dishoom's New Crockery Collection
Incorporating the time-honoured Indian chintz pattern.
Cult-loved London restaurant, Dishoom, just announced the release of its brand-new crockery collection, drawing inspiration from vintage Indian patterns.
Comprising plates, bowls, teacups and saucers, the new collection echoes the familiar “Blue Chintz” design found on its famed breakfast dishes, a pattern which originated as a floral fabric print in India, dating back to the 16th century. The word “chintz” itself is derived from the Hindi word “chint,” which translates to “speckled.”
Dishoom’s signature design pays homage to its rich heritage, harking back to the days of ceramic chintzware production which resulted in a ban on imported, Indian-made goods from 1700 to 1740. The pattern has since become synonymous with English afternoon teas, now reclaimed through Dishoom’s coveted house chai.
The new products can be purchased separately, with prices starting at £15 (approximately $18 USD) or sold as a signature set, complete with all elements for £78 (approximately $94 USD.) A set of two plates will also feature in Dishoom’s signature Naan Roll Kits and for every kit sold, the restaurant will donate a meal to its charity partners, Magic Breakfast in the U.K. and The Akshaya Patra Foundation in India.
Take a look at the new selection above, now available for purchase from The Dishoom Store.
