LaQuan Smith Subverts Sensuality for SS24

A collection for the grown and sexy.

For his Spring/Summer 2024 collection, LaQuan Smith delivered a refined sense of sexuality, continuing to prove why he dresses the likes of both Kamala Harris, Beyoncé and Julia Fox. It should come as no surprise that Saweetie and Laverne Cox were sat front row to witness his latest New York Fashion Week presentation.

What: Laquan Smith’s SS24 collection is made for the woman on the go, assuming her schedule is packed with drag brunches at 12 p.m. and martini lunches at 3 p.m. Smith’s aesthetic has always been unapologetically sexy, but for his newest offering, he opted for an elevated route, dressing models in mesh bodysuits and delivering varying hemlines for versatility.

Who: Supermodel Elsa Hosk walked, while Mary J. Blige, Saweetie and Offset attended, alongside actors Laverne Cox and Quinta Bronson.

Saw: The collection is ripe with sharply structured silhouettes, sheer fabrics and statement-making evening wear, offering the perfect wardrobe for all the bad and bougie aunties out there. Metallic short shorts are paired with oversized button downs for a high-low look, while sheer mock turtlenecks are worn with mirco mini skirts fit for go-go dancers. Generously baggy jeans outfitted with zippers around the knee are juxtaposed with provocative chainmaill tops, perfectly capturing Laquan Smith’s subversive sensuality this season. The collection’s evening wear does not fail to deliver as baby blue Grecian dresses are made more intriguing with midriff cut-outs. Joining them are metallic strapless frocks with hip-high slits for added drama. A dazzling crinkled silver dress with a plunging neckline and wide hemline closed the show, embodying the same energy Michelle Pfeiffer had cascading down the stairs to meet Tony Montana.

Touch: Sheer and metallic fabric dominated the collection, sitting alongside cracked leather and denim.

Taste: LaQuan Smith’s SS24 collection is not for the faint of heart. Between nipple-baring tops, ultra short-shorts and futuristic mini metallic dresses, the LaQuan Smith woman is ready to take over the world — nay — the universe.
