Parris Goebel Awarded New Zealand Order of Merit
The choreographer was named in the Queen’s New Year’s Honours list in 2019.
Choreographer Parris Goebel has become a member of the New Zealand Order of Merit, a prestigious recognition overseen by the country’s Queen.
The 28-year-old dance star took to Instagram to announce the news and share photos of the award, which honors her contributions to dance. ”To receive this recognition and title for my service to dance is such an honour…I honestly never imagined dance would get me here. Never stop dreaming, never give up and always serve others along your way,” Goebel wrote in the caption.
The choreographer, who was born in South Auckland, has worked with a range of artists including Jennifer Lopez, Rihanna and BLACKPINK. At only 15-years-old, she formed ReQuest Dance Crew, which has received awards at various world hip-hop dance championships. In 2018, she published an autobiography, Young Queen.
