Khaite Hosts a Drive-In Theater for Fall 2021 Collection

A Sean Baker-directed film showcases models taking over the streets of New York City.

With another season in lockdown, fashion brands continue to get creative with their digital presentation formats. For its Fall 2021 collection, New York-based Khaite‘s creative director Catherine Holstein has invited a select group of editors and buyers to a drive-in theater to showcase a fashion film lensed by Sean Baker.

The video captures models like Soo Joo Park, Paloma Elsesser, Akon Adichol, Lulu Tenney and Tess McMillan roaming the streets of NYC. “In talking with Sean, we both traced the intensity of this time to what first drew us each to New York — the intrigue, the edge, even the peril. No one moves to New York to play it safe,” Holstein explained the inspiration behind the visuals, while Baker added: “This is our crazy love letter to New York City and I hope audiences have as much fun watching as we had making it.”

The vibrant, youthful energy is transferred to Khaite’s latest garments, which are accentuated with contrasting materials and juxtaposed silhouettes. A faux fur collar complements a leather coat, while a bulky, oversized puffer subtly reveals a body-hugging ribbed dress underneath. Elsewhere, precision takes over a series of classically draped dresses. Backless designs are highlighted with sheer lace fabrics in diverse shades, as the range continues on with chunky knitwear items. The ’70s glamour influence is seen through the color palette, which boasts saturated red and green hues reminiscent of street lights.
