The Top 4 Shows and Runway Trends at Milan Fashion Week FW22

From Versace’s corset takeover to Marni’s spiky footwear.

Milan Fashion Week blended heritage and futuristic expressions for a Fall/Winter 2022 season set to inspire a new wave of creativity. Showcases included the expected big names such as Prada, MM6 Maison Margiela and Fendi, as well as emerging Italian brands from VITELLI to AC9.

From Diesel’s sci-fi inspired runway to SUNNEI’s run-don’t-walk show, it’s clear the tides are turning and IRL fashion will seek pleasure and play above all else. Gucci introduced a blowout collaboration with adidas featuring a double-sided sports cap among other ready-to-wear garments and footwear. AMBUSH’s debut show was a knockout, with the likes of Bella Hadid strutting around an ethereal moon donning heart-shaped bags, tall leather boots and BDSM-inspired leathers. With MFW wrapped, we recap the emerging trends and runway shows that are set to influence FW22 style.

Versace

Versace capitalized on corsets as a signature staple of its FW22 women’s collection, and we are here for it. The corset structure was utilized across puffer jackets, dresses, tops as well as a trench coat, showing a seductive sense of unapologetic allure. The collection, tailored to regal rebels, boasts signature Versace tweeds, crystal and metal chains and wide leg pants fit for day and night life. The new Greca Goddess line of bags and accessories is an ode to the brand’s culture of myth and luxury, with its Greca motif taking center stage. Get inspired by the winter pops of color and cinched-waist outerwear as a go-to for FW22.

Marni

Marni merged timelessness and personal identity into a FW22 show centered around beloved objects. The showcase began in an industrial oasis, warehouse and slowly turned into an outdoor museum venue where show-goers joined the models amidst a luxurious dinner party setting with bright blue sanded flooring. The collection itself involves big coats, jackets, shredded dresses and mended sweaters. As consumers actively seek reparation and opportunities to support a sustainable fashion ecosystem, Marni delivers cues on how to cherish clothing, old and new. As for footwear, the brand’s spiky pumps and boots quite literally, nailed it.

Jil Sander

Jil Sander continued its legacy in tailoring and craftsmanship with new innovative materials in an elegant FW22 collection. With confidence being at the heart of the brand’s concept, each garment portrays a shared human need to connect, play and grow. The skirts and dresses from the showcase come alive with movement with various widths and shapes. In line with a wave of empowered gender fluidity in the industry, Jil Sander merged womenswear and menswear with double-breasted jackets. For footwear, the brand delivered a new take on pointy, slim Chelsea boots and loafers. As for accessories, look to the brand’s knitted bow bag, envelope bag and new trapezoid shoulder bag for a soft luxury aesthetic.

Bottega Veneta

Matthieu Blazy’s debut show for Bottega Veneta built on the past to evoke a new future for the brand. As a leather goods-first company, the collection drew inspiration from movement and utility. The simplicity of the garments didn’t loose out on poignant craftsmanship. The artistic director alludes to a “quiet power” in his white tank tops, photo-real leather denim jeans and new wool flannels. Popularized by its legacy in handcrafted leather bags, the brand leveraged artisanal purpose from its oversized handheld pieces to Leather Pillow bags and over the shoulder bags in classic intrecciato style.
