Fendi Taps Joshua Vides for Sketched "California Sky" Collection
The artist also designed the Italian house’s temporary Fendi Caffe at Harrods last summer.
While the Italian luxury label recently unveiled new bag designs for Spring/Summer 2020, Fendi has now enlisted Los Angeles-based artist Joshua Vides for a range of statement apparel and accessories as part of its Pre-Fall 2020 collection. The latest partnership follows the creative’s work for the temporary Fendi Caffe that opened at Harrods last summer.
Designed by the heritage brand’s creative director Silvia Venturini Fendi, each of the items is finished off with Vides’ signature bold black-and-white sketched graphics throughout. Dubbed “California Sky,” the collection features Fendi’s iconic pieces as well as wardrobe essentials, including the Peekaboo bag, matching blazer and trousers, bucket hats, sneakers and more.
The artist landed this major partnership through Instagram — “At first, I didn’t know whether to believe it or not,” Vides commented in a press release, while explaining that a Fendi employee had reached out to him via direct messaging. He was first commissioned to create the Peekaboo Bar — a pop-up customization station for Fendi’s bag in London last summer — followed by the Fendi Caffe. “I thought the emotion he was able to give by just using a black marker was amazing. It’s in our DNA to share creativity and collaborate in a very open way,” Venturini Fendi added.
