Did Anna Delvey and Fyre Festival's Billy McFarland Really Know Each Other?
We all had the same question while watching Netflix’s ‘Inventing Anna.’
Netflix‘s highly anticipated series Inventing Anna, which follows the story of one of New York‘s biggest scammers Anna Delvey (real name Anna Sorokin), has finally arrived. In Episode 4 of the show, many viewers had the same question: Did Anna really know Billy McFarland, the fraudster behind the infamous Fyre Festival?
At one point in the story, Delvey (played by Julia Garner) moves out of Nora Radford’s home to stay at a SoHo loft, where McFarland (Ben Rappaport) throws “out of control” parties. The two talk about his new “project,” which turns out to be Fyre Festival. “Investors are the worst,” McFarland says, suggesting Sorokin invest in his business. “My list of investors is pretty A-list… It’s going to be huge.” Sorokin responds: “Invest in some party for out-of-towners? Thanks, but no. It’s too small-scale for me.” By the next episode, Sorokin moves to the 12 George (which is not an actual hotel; she stayed at the 11 Howard in real life).
According to Page Six, Sorokin knew one of McFarland’s team members, asked to “stay for a few days” and “wouldn’t leave.” She also attended some of the parties that McFarland threw for this “credit card” company Magnises. She ended up staying for four months until he moved his headquarters.
