Every month, the universe presents us with the beautiful gift of a fresh start with the arrival of a new moon.

While you don’t need to break out the candles and create an entire altar, there are small ways to acknowledge and tune into the new moon’s power. Continue reading to learn how to create your own new moon ritual.

Journal

Writing is the perfect exercise for introspection, so break out your journal and free write for five minutes to get the creative juices flowing.

Setting goals and intentions

With the presence of the new moon comes a new month – the opportune time to think about what you want to achieve and do over the next four weeks. If you’ve been trying to drink less coffee or create a better work-life balance, now is the time to start.

Make a vision board

If you’re a highly aesthetic person and grew up cutting out pictures of magazines, vision boards are the new moon ritual for you. Creating a collage of images that symbolize your goals can be a powerful accountability partner. Use yours as your computer wallpaper or hang it up on the wall as a reminder.

Create a sister circle

Sister circles have been the age-old way to celebrate a new moon, so getting together with a few close friends and a bottle of (non-alcoholic) wine is a great way to channel the energy of the moon as being with a like-minded community can be a source of healing.

Practice self-care

As new moons mark the start of a new month, a night of primping and pampering can help you feel ready for what’s to come. Whether it’s eating pizza or ice cream or putting on your favorite sheet mask, take the night off to treat yourself and practice your go-to self-care routine.

Our environments affect our energy more than we realize, so giving your apartment a good deep clean or even rearranging your furniture can help setting the tone for the month to come.

If you are already a spiritual baddie, you probably keep crystals on your nightstand. The new moon’s cleansing energy can charge your crystals, bestowing them with even more energetic power. Leave them in the windowsill or put them in the garden to give them a supercharge.
