New Book 'Saudi Coffee: The Culture of Hospitality' Explores Coffee as National Symbol of Pride

“For Arabs and Saudis, coffee is an integrated part of our culture and identity. It’s how we show generosity and hospitality,” Sara Alali, Coffee Educator.

Luxury publisher Assouline adds the new title Saudi Coffee: The Culture of Hospitality to its Classics Collection range. Written by Saudi Arabian Chef, Hospitality Professional, and Culinary Educator Maher Raed Al Nammary, the book explores Saudi Arabia’s coffee, from seedling to refreshment, and its long history as a symbol in the region.

The author notes in a press release: “Coffee is a staple across the globe as a warm beverage to start the morning or the perfect pairing with dessert. In Saudi Arabia, coffee is a symbol. A symbol of hospitality, a symbol of national pride and a symbol of time-honored traditions.” And so, across 216 pages, readers embark on a journey on how coffee beans achieve a variety of flavors and aromas according to the region they are tended, harvested and roasted.

The title also includes original photography by Oliver Pilcher, illustrations by Rafael Alterio and images by Ibrahim Sarhan, Mohammed Albaijan and Dhafer Alshehri, which illustrate the wonders of the nation, along with the methods of serving coffee in Saudi Arabia and how hospitality is an important tradition.
