UPDATE: Are Ye and Balenciaga Officially Over?
“Balenciaga has no longer any relationship nor any plans for future projects related to this artist,” says Kering.
Balenciaga has seemingly cut all ties with Kanye West, following his “White Lives Matter” T-shirt at Paris Fashion Week, subsequent criticism of Vogue editor Gabriela Karefa-Johnson and recent antisemitic statements.
Though the brand hasn’t yet released an official statement on social media (and may not release one at all) there’s been a series of subtle actions that have lead consumers to believe that the partnership with Ye is over for good. Firstly, Balenciaga has removed the Vogue Runway image of Ye walking at their recent PFW show, followed by the removal of the ‘Yeezy Gap Engineered By Balenciaga’ collection from their website, alongside other retailers.
Balenciaga’s parent company, Kering, has since responded to queries from WWD about the partnership, confirming that “Balenciaga has no longer any relationship nor any plans for future projects related to this artist.”
Since Ye’s PFW show, the rapper has been restricted on Instagram and locked out of Twitter, his YEEZY partnership with adidas has been put under review and JP Morgan Chase has ended their relationship, too. Numerous celebrities have also spoken out about Ye’s unforgivable actions, including Justin and Hailey Bieber, Gigi Hadid, Kendall Jenner and Jaden Smith.
Stay tuned for further updates.
